Stuffed badge

I never really posted this anywhere so here's a little something I have to show for being published.

More stuff

I'm two for two on both Plush You and Stuffed!  I will once again be a part of an awesome plush show at Schmancy Toys in Seattle and I'll be in Stuffed Magazine for the second time this year.  I'm also trying to finish up another art show at Hooked on Colfax.  It looks like I will also have a feature in a new magazine that will be available in Denver and Boulder.  Busy, busy, busy.  Once I'm done being a one-man sweat shop for my show, I'm planning on working on developing more characters and fleshing out a story line for the Corpseweed Home for Monstrous Children.  I feel like this could make for a really cool book and maybe even a movie.  Gotta dream big, right?

I also want to start working on some new designs and techniques so that I have something that I feel is more "art" and less "craft."  I definitely see an improvement in the quality of my work from my initial line of zombie pillow heads up to now but I want to push myself even further.  I really admire the work of Jen Musatto (Them Dollz), Amanda Louise Spayd, and Catherine Zacchino (Junker Jane.)  I just don't want to do stuff that is too derivative of what they're doing.  It may just be a matter of finding a starting point and developing a more personal, unique style from there.  Anyway, things are going well so far and will hopefully continue.

Stuff

Apparently I'm pretty bad at keeping my blog updated.  Big news!  I have been accepted into the Winter 2013 issue of Stuffed Magazine and I not only got my first solo show but it has almost completely sold out!  I am really stoked about both of these.  I feel like I might finally be getting my toys/plush art/whatever off the ground.  This show has shown me that I need to get my stuff out there for people to see in person.  I've been relying on Etsy too heavily and although it's a great resource, I think I would do much better at craft/art shows so that I don't have to depend on a search engine for someone to come across my little creatures.  I've also gotten a lot of feedback that my prices are too low.  I've never been able to have a good grasp on that fine line of charging what my time is worth and what people are willing to pay, although I have a better idea now after seeing everything getting snatched up.  I'm hopeful about what next year will bring and am looking forward to starting on my book that tells the tale of the Corpseweed Home for Monstrous Children.

Victor and Clara

I finished up my first go at Victor and Clara, the human kids at the Corpseweed Home for Monstrous Children.  They ended up being a bit too big compared to the monsters and since I want them to actually look like kids, I decided to make them again but smaller.  I'll hopefully have the new versions up in my Etsy shop soon.

Coming along

I didn't end up getting accepted into the Etsy Plush Team. It's a little disappointing but I don't know how much time I'd have to put into the challenges anyway. On the plus side, I should be done with two new designs soon and will start working on another. I'm anxious to get more characters finished and to eventually start working on a book that tells the story of Corpseweed.

Hullo.

I figured since I set up this blog quite a while ago and have yet to post anything, it was definitely time.  I've been accepted to this year's Plush You show in Seattle, which is super exciting.  I just applied for the Etsy Plush Team and will be sending in for the next Stuffed Magazine in August for the January 2013 issue.  Hopefully I'll be making some good strides in the near future to get the word out about my toys.
